Dedicated to making things work - on the job, in the community, and as a leader on the Las Vegas City Council……that’s the Steve Ross story.

Steve’s life has always been about hard work, fighting for working families, and creating jobs and opportunities for all. Born in Nevada, and raised in Las Vegas, he’s the proud son of a pit boss and a real estate agent. Steve learned from his parents the lifelong values of hard work, honesty, and giving back to his community.

Steve knows firsthand the dignity that people feel when they’re working, contributing, creating and once again building our community into the best place in America to live and raise a family.

Educated in Las Vegas public schools, Steve was a leader as a Boy Scout and a baseball player who accepted family responsibility at a young age. In high school he framed houses, busted tires, striped parking lots, and washed dishes - whatever it took to contribute to the family savings.

In college, Steve worked two jobs to pay his own way, became an electrician and joined IBEW Local 357. As he’s done throughout his life, he rolled up his sleeves, became a leader in his union, and rose to Executive Secretary Treasurer of the Southern Nevada Building Trades Council.

Steve was so effective fighting for Las Vegas working families that his neighbors twice elected him to be their voice on the Las Vegas City Council, where he has worked to help small businesses create jobs, keep Las Vegans in their homes, and breathe new life into downtown. In 2012, Steve was selected Public Official of the Year by the Nevada League of Cities.

In 1998, the Ross family took their own shot at the American Dream, opening a small family owned industrial contracting company that created jobs with good pay and benefits.  But like hundreds of of other Las Vegas small businesses, the Ross family and their 12 employees were hit hard by the recession. The business was forced to close, but that didn't stop Steve from doing what he does best...fighting to get Las Vegas back on its feet and helping working families knocked to their knees get up and build an even better future.

Along the way Steve’s been a tireless community volunteer, mentoring youths as a Little League baseball coach for 8 years, serving in leadership positions in his church, and is on the Board of Directors for the Las Vegas Area Council of Boy Scouts.

Steve’s a family man, who along with Kelli, his wife of 19 years, has five children and eleven grandchildren.

Steve Ross has never stopped fighting for Las Vegas families.  He has the down-to-earth, common sense values we need now to create new, good-paying, long-term jobs, and he understands the challenges facing small businesses, homeowners, and working families. Steve is the right leader to guide Las Vegas through the recovery and put us on the fast track back to work.

Steve currently serves as a commissioner on the Regional Transportation Committee and Regional Flood Control Board, and is a member of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Clark County Shooting Park Advisory Committee, the City of Las Vegas Audit Oversight Committee, and the Nevada League of Cities.
